AUSTRALIAN BROADBAND FAILS INTERNATIONAL AFFORDABILITY TEST

11 Sep 2019

Research done by the Australian Parliamentary Library shows that Australia has the lowest internet affordability under the NBN, says Brian Mitchell MP, the Labor Member for Lyons.

The research, requested by Labor’s Shadow Minister for Communications Michelle Rowland MP, shows that even entry-level broadband prices are unfair.

This is especially concerning to rural and regional Tasmanians who are already contending with unstable connection issues and poor network service.

“Unaffordability is the latest in a string of NBN failures under the Liberals,” says Mr Mitchell

“NBN under the Liberals is slower, the tech is older and the service is more expensive. It’s been failure after failure.

“It has cost too much, taken too long and fails on customer service, affordability and accessibility.”

“People across Europe, the US and Asia are laughing at Australia’s internet service – they can’t believe how bad it is. But the fact that Australians have to pay more to get less is no laughing matter.”
