AFLW LEAGUE DRAFT A WIN FOR TASMANIA
19 Oct 2017
After a rigorous two days of assessment that included kicking and handball drills designed to test distance, accuracy and trajectory, as well as personality testing the wait for the five Tasmania Australian Football League Women’s hopefuls is over.
Tasmanian Daria Bannister was successful in her bid in the first ever women’s draft for the code and will play for the Western Bulldogs.
“This pathway for women to excel in AFL is well overdue, and I’m thrilled Tasmania has had the five quality players in the drafting process," said Brian Mitchell MP.
“I hope next year there are even more Tasmanian women stepping up to have a go.
“Good luck to all the players, and well done to the Tasmanians who put themselves forward."
