SERCO HIRED TO TAKE YOUR CENTRELINK CALLS
11 Oct 2017
The Turnbull government’s decision to let Serco take over a Centrelink Call Centre is just outrageous.
“The team of 250 workers will start taking calls in a three-year pilot program costing the government $51.7 million.
“My first concern is privacy of people’s financial information.
“After that my concerns range around the quality of information offered to Centrelink customers and the conditions of the call centre staff.
“Serco is a private, profit making company – they will be caring about the bottom line, not the quality of working conditions for staff or the outcomes for the community.
“This move is unprecedented – the government is just taking its decentralisation one step too far.
“Where outsourcing has taken place in other agencies, like the ATO, we’ve seen error after error, drop in staff numbers with call times extending out.
“We can’t really afford any loss of quality in Centrelink service – we haven’t even recovered from the #robodebt incident of 2016,” Brian Mitchell MP said.
