WHITEFOORD MOBILE BLACK SPOT RELIEF
02 Jun 2017
Brian Mitchell, MP is relieved to see that Whitefoord, outside Oatlands, has had its mobile phone tower activated this week. This follows Oatlands and Colebrook ‘small cell’ activations in April, 2017.
Whitefoord is just one of the 577 mobile phone blackspots on the wait list across rural and remote Australia waiting on action to get stable access to mobile and internet reception.
‘I’m calling on Telstra to investigate the installation of small cells in areas like Westerway and Maydena.’ Mr Mitchell said.
“We know Tasmania missed out in the budget, we don’t want to miss out on being prioritised for the black spot program too.
“The much heralded Mobile Black Spots Program is also unbelievably slow to deliver its incremental improvements in mobile communications.
“It’s nearly 18 months since the announcement of Round 1 base stations and not even half of these are switched on.”
